I experimented by accessing services without recommendations – using direct search, browsing by category, or accessing through external links. The experience felt different. Slower, but more intentional. The choices felt more like choices because nothing had been pre-selected for me.

I audited my trust transfers. I trusted Google’s health information because I trusted Google’s search. I trusted Amazon’s pricing because I trusted Amazon’s convenience. Neither trust transfer was logically justified.

Change defaults deliberately. Audit default settings across platforms. Change them to match your actual preferences rather than accepting platform-serving defaults.

Create friction for undesired behaviors. Make impulsive purchases harder through waiting periods. Make notification response slower through batching. Use the friction mechanism in your favor.

Reduce personalization where possible. Decline tracking. Use private browsing. Provide minimal data. Less personalization means less targeted manipulation.

Separate decision contexts from emotional triggers. Don’t shop after anxious social media scrolling. Don’t make important choices in depleted states. Protect decisions from emotional manipulation.
